Jean Plaidy is a prolific author of historical fiction, a genre she has made her own with a series of novels about Queen Elizabeth I, the Tudor queens and the lives of ordinary men and women. Plaidy was born in London in 1926. She began writing as a child, and published her first novel in 1946. She has written more than 70 books, including several successful series, as well as several non-fiction works on history and the arts.
